A few weeks ago I saw a leaflet sitting on their counter advertising a Limited Edition, 50th Anniversary, 12yo Jack Daniels coming into stock. When I asked the guy when they'd be getting them in, I was told there'd only be five for that liquor store. Jovially, I asked him to save it for me. Laughing, he said he couldn't, but he'd try to dissuade others from buy it until I'd been in.
Walking into the liquor store this Wednesday just gone, I asked the manager to tell me great things about the bourbon and scotch he's got in. Getting to the more expensive booze, he pointed at a nondescript black box. It was the 50th Anniversary JD. I nearly shat.
He knew me, so he let me open the box and fondle the innards. I asked him where the other four had gone, and he said they were bought on the first day of putting them on the shelves. I stood undecided for about half a minute when I told him I'd take it. He asked if I was going to be drinking this alone, and I told him I wouldn't have it any other way. He suggested I keep it unopened and start collecting, I laughed HARD.
At $75, I thought it was a bargain. Having made a compulsory stop at the MIL's for MIL+Charli time, I popped the cork and poured myself, Jerkface and his brother a glass, a belated birthday present for brotherJerkface, whose birthday blowout I missed. Definitely one for special occasions or super-stressful days, I will make sure this JD will be enjoyed to the maximo.
Whew. Holy Lord of all things right and good and beautiful and precious in this world, thank you for creating alcohol this magical.
PS. I just realised it's my mum's birthday. You can bet I'll drink to that tonight.
